Take a green approach to IT knowledge

Knowledge Catalogs reuse and recycle critical
requirements, business rules and metadata.

Software development may follow a waterfall (single-iteration) methodology, or an iterative methodology like the Unified Process.  The number of iterations impacts cost and value.

For greatest value, a Business Analyst should reuse and recycle business knowledge through all iterations.  This can be accomplished with three Knowledge Catalogs.

  • REQUIREMENTS — Use Cases, activity diagrams and requirements lists
  • METADATA — Data models and data dictionaries
  • BUSINESS RULES — Valid values, facts, and formulas.
